The Effect of the Electoral College on the 2016 Election and Efforts to Reform the Process.
Though the 2016 Presidential Election has been the source of recent controversy it is in fact emblematic of the historical defects and pitfalls of the Electoral College. The College’s long history is marked with controversy and scandal which have shaped the modern political system. From its inception at the Constitutional Congress to today the Electoral College’s purpose, organization, and function have continually changed. Its impact and effects, both direct and indirect, are widely recorded and are often cited as prime reasons for reforming or abolishing the college. There are those who contend however that at worst we are simply unable to abolish the process and at best the process is still an integral part of the checks and balances set out by the founding fathers.
